Ed Giecek Envelope feb 2005

A brilliant sunny day...natures' way of teasing as Monday we have a Northeaster headed our way. Wanted to go out and play but Jon & I had both looked around recently and realised we needed a major cleanup. yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! too much...sensibly he said one room at a time. So we dismantled the living room...yep, dragged the artwork off the walls, pulled out the furniture, washed the sheer drapeds...yes, we are clean again! Took the major part of the day, but we are pleased.
To reward our efforts, had wonderful mail...Mum sent her self-designed envelope, this time with a chrysanthemum and news of blooming camelias. Teasing me for all our snow!
Also mail from Ed Giecek, and so pleased he sent an original collage by him...see here...
well here! With a few minor changes which I appreciated.
posted envelopes & old drawings from jstangrooms archives to Ruud Janssen which he posted. Phenomenal all the goings on at his site! Wondering if he is triplets! How can one person do so much!
Jeepers, creepers...lots of mail and collages to do...better quit playing!
Wherever you are...quit wasting time and get to work! Oh, we can be bad...

Winter Bluez 2 collage

Woke up this morning...well that might have been the mistake right there! Snow...hoooours later, snow. Still going-must be the duracel Snow God up there today. Peck peck peck. What's that? Sparrow having a go at the window! Trying to get in? Look out and see the feeder looks like an ice sculture. Oh, ok...wade out toting sunflower seed, wreck the sculpture and
feel a psycho moment...like a thousand birds ready to descend! High-tail it outta there. Jon's pacing, not knowing what to do with himself. We decided to watch a movie then walked up to the deli for fresh goodies for lunch. Email from Ruud saying he got my mail. Check out his site at IUOMA and indeedy, it's there with lots of other good mail. Wonder if the post office has to hire a special person just to deliver all his mail!
Made a collage then worked on different effects on photos...either I go into a trance working on this stuff, or last nite's wine is playing tricks cause suddenly it's nite. Peak outside...yep, whiteout...which is better than black out I suppose. I know, candles can be romantic but I don't feel like snuggling with the 'puter right now, Sue dog needs a bath, and so does Jon! Just kidding, Sweetie...sniff sniff. Speaking of, he went to NYC to work & play, caught the Cristo "Gates" at Central Park. Some great photos...will pick one he's not showing to give a feel for the scope of this project! Work wouldn't let me off ;-( Nurses have to call in from their own hospital beds to miss a day...but only griping a little. One needs one good gripe a day to keep the doctor away. groan
So how did you spend YOUR day? You did WHAT?!!!

Envelope to Ruud Janssen #1

Envelope I mailed to Ruud today in celebration of his 25 years in mailart.
But at times being a potato-head, I misspelled his name in the address! jeepers! Later worked on collage for Collage Kids group and swapped corruptions of photos back and worth...setting a properly grown up example, thank you. Ooh'd & Ahh'd over collages in John Evan's "Collage" book...studying it too. A definite influence.
Jon's home now. We decided not to go out for tappas afterall, at least for tonite. So...I got goodies early! New Popeye toys which I'll be creating scenes with and putting on flickr...also, Olive Oyl socks! Does he ever know the way to a gal's heart!
Hmmm...did I see Billy Goat Gruff on Bootsale songs??? Off to check it out.
And Ruud...congrats again!

The Lady In The Heart collage

Well, it's Valentine's Day...what did you expect?!Admit to getting totally mushy as there are too many "holidays" I don't care a whip about....but love? A day to remember those who make our lives more meaningful? Yeah. Know what I realised? Our sibblings count too! Forget those bratty years of tormenting each other...they rate! To who else could you spill your guts and have them remain calmly tell you you have a buggar hanging out yer nare...and you aren't offended?!
So...where ever you are...remember to tell someone you love them. So it's only the dog? That's fair. Had a silly Kitty that liked to sit on my chest come morning...eyeball to eyeball...Wake UP! Play with me! Wish she were here to say "I Love you". So,
don't miss your chance...today it's okay to be a bit mushy.
Hugs, all.

Ruud Janssen 25th yr Postcard

Hey, Ruud, thanks so much. This postcard, celebrating Ruud's 25 years worth of contributing to the growth and networking of mailartist, is a wonderful piece. The picture here doesn't do justice to the lush layers of paint, with the bronze areas a subtle shimmer. Lovely. Now I need to do a little something in return!
Back to Somerville, the snow alert turned out to be more ice than snow so out WAY too early to scrap and do the winter thing. Then hussled to work where the gods deemed I needed a normal day. Able to leave on time...yes! Home, but Jon had been brilliant on chores then absconded to the Plough. He deserved it. Tried to see what I should do here, but drawn by a magnetic force to the computer where I found invite for "Winter of Discontent" collage from grocky. Collage"!!! Could write a book! Heart pounding...am I feverish? No, I think it's called collagitist. Projects to do and a weekend to work on them...sigh. And Valentine's Day coming up...;-) Am told I'll be taken out for a special dinner that nite...five years plus may not seem very long, but it's also forever it seems. Nice to be spoiled on occasion, and amazing we two strange souls (the artists' temperament is not to be ignored) have neither hidden a body in the cellar nor grown flowers over a "well fertilized" garden! Actually we are more likely to collapse in giggles, forgetting the movie we are watching, and remembering life's little calamities. Picture Jon reaching out for a hug and his chair, in slow motion, tossing him into the mail shredder. Or another meal I've prepared, half from the kitchen, half from the computer room..."Oh!" he bravely says..."Lovely charcoal! Shall I use the chisel or the hammer?". No wonder the poor man makes Tiny Tim look like Paul Bunyon! Teasing of course as he's strong as an ox.
Article in the paper today showing picture of Christo's "The Pont Neuf Wrapped". 450,000 suare feet of woven polyamide fabric used to wrap the 12 arches of Pont-Neuf in central Paris. Interesting because we have signed postcard of the Pont-Neuf of original arches by Cristo. Can't imagine a project of that size!
Well, work to do and a man to feed...so better pay attention here. A charcoaled hotdog might be pushing the limits?
Wheverever you are...don't forget those you love...yeah, that Valentine's thingy!
Hugs to all.

Taking Care of Business collage a

Oh, nice to sleep in! Actually, Jon beat me up this morning...already had collected the paper and was well into his cup of coffee! We decided to stay in and catch up on mailart, collages, and general maintenance here...but that only worked for a while before Jon was antsy for his daily walk. Found some photos Michael had sent from our trip there...might be showing a few. Ruud Janssen emailed that I pestered him enough to get one of his 25 years cards...just teasing Ruud! And I've been trying to come up with something appropriate to send back in return. Pleased to see John M Bennett's piece I did arrived on Five Million Copies, and Madge found a home on kenbmiller's site. Nice piece of Michael Leigh's there too! Hate that for some reason my blog will no longer let me have nedstat or links without throwing the whole site ablunder, but hey...doesn't really matter. Roger Stevens says the collaborative between he, A1 wastedpapiers, and myself arrived (sorry I took so long!). Think we might be close to finishing this, so eager to see final craziness...it's almost 3D considering the personalities!
Watching that mail as Ed Giecek has something coming, and oh, I LOVE his eraser carvings! Talk about detail and just plain talent!
Art Naphro the orphan has long been a favorite for his collages, but thrilled to see some of his paintings. We all have our personal taste in art, and his appeals to me.
Dog is snoring, Jon is patiently waiting for food...so better get a move on.
Where ever you are...be safe, be happy.
